What they're saying
"Superb"

We had lunch here with friends to celebrate my 75th birthday. What a find. I think it deserves a Michelin star, or bib at the very least. Every course was superb, well explained and presented. The secluded location and 180 degree coastal views are breathtakingly beautiful, and the restaurant itself was lovely especially our window table. Hugely enjoyable.

"Fabulous welcome"

We were walk in's, fabulous welcome from the moment we entered asking for a room. Every member of staff was brillant, great wine list. The Ox tail was the best ever eaten, would have been happy to have just eaten as a main.
Will be returning, thank you owners for picking such amazing staff.

"An absolutely brilliant 4 nights in this boutique hotal"

Driftwood has the most magnificent position on the cliff top with views to die for. The room, a family room with 2 bedrooms was perfect, the staff were friendly without being obtrusive and the food was excellent.

"Dream location "

Very nice dream location with direct access to the beach. Very nice warm welcome at the hotel...The breakfast was exceptionally good and freshly prepared. Cream tea was lovely. The dinner would have earned a Michelin star on both evenings. Very very good with good wine list. But the best thing was the people who made our stay perfect.

"What a find!"

What a find! Tucked out the way from the usual crowded places, here you have peace and relaxation without any hassle. Just book in and let the price and tranquility of the area wash over you. No other houses near you, your own deserted beach, lovely coastal walks and their own wonderful gardens to sit in and watch the sea.

As for the food, it can only be described as boarding on Michelin star! that good !
All the staff were very helpful and friendly, could not do enough for you, I think I'm right in saying it's only 15 rooms and a wonderful little 2 bed cottage that's tucked in half way down the cliff path , so book early if you want a relaxing get away!

"Perfect for a sunshine break"

This is a delightful hotel in a stunning location. The extensive gardens run down to the sea and the views are breath-taking. The service was outstanding and my husband pronounced breakfast "the best this year!"
We stayed for a weekend break in Room 14, which was light and spacious... Overall we had a wonderful stay and felt totally looked after. We would be back in a heartbeat.

"Delightful stay in this lovely hotel!"

The hotel is situated in a beautiful location with stunning views and its own beach. Our 2 night stay with family for a special birthday celebration was faultless. The service was friendly and relaxed and the staff couldn’t do more to help. Food was excellent and of note the mackerel and lobster. We were able to have both breakfast and dinner on the terrace on the second day. We had a picnic one day in the garden provided by the hotel in a lovely hamper with tasty sandwiches and treats. sleeping with the balcony doors open with a fabulous view of the sea and the moon, and sounds of the waves was the icing on the cake, helped of course by the great weather.

"Exquisite short break"

A wonderful short holiday here to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. We arrived exhausted after a long drive and a breakdown on the M5 but were soon revived by a warm welcome and a walk down to the glorious beach below the hotel. A g and t on the terrace while enjoying the amazing views completed the restoration. We ate both nights at the hotel and the food was flavoursome and well presented. The breakfast menu is particularly magnificent but the stars of the show are the staff who are helpful, jolly and professional whether they are bringing plates of food, cleaning and replenishing the rooms or soothing guests who accidentally set off the alarm in the disabled loo. We were extremely lucky with the weather and enjoyed a cliff walk to Portscatho as well as a swim in the sea. many thanks to all who made our trip such a joyous occasion.

A hidden gem…the perfect place for a weekend getaway. Everything about this place is just superb, from the moment you arrive you instantly feel relaxed.
The food is amazing, along with the views of the sea. The service is exceptional and we honestly can’t wait to return again. Thank you to all of the team at Driftwood for making our stay so memorable.

"The nicest hotel I've ever stayed in in the UK"

I think this is the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in in the UK. I feel like I could write a novel about how relaxing and idyllic it is to wake up overlooking stunning gardens and ocean views, enjoy a delicious, leisurely breakfast and then spend the day just soaking up the lovey surroundings whether you stay at the hotel or venture to one of the beautiful towns/beaches/gardens nearby.

The staff were all lovely; so accommodating and on top of everything without creating a stuffy atmosphere. As for the dinners, I don't know how the restaurant doesn't have a michelin star yet but I'm sure it will soon! Just a delightful place to spend time unwinding.

"One word summarises the food quality : OUTSTANDING"

This is a small comfortable hotel on the Roseland Coast, known to us in the past.
We stayed the night in a sea view room and ate in the restaurant and while we have eaten in Michelin star restaurants all over the world, in our opinion the Tasting Menu and Wine Flight were OUTSTANDING.

"A piece of Heaven"

This is our second stay at Driftwood, returning now from August.

It’s not often we return to a place, but Driftwood is special; it has an aura of relaxation, calm, nothing is too much trouble and the food is Michelin class... Never mind the Maldives come to Roseland, specifically this absolute piece of wonderfulness, Driftwood!

"You need to go here"

Where to start? The bedroom view? (Jaw-stopping sea view from all three windows.) Service? Perfection itself and really friendly, too. Decor? Absolutely stunning, warm and comfortable. But it's the food that makes this hotel head and shoulders above its rivals and worth the visit...Easily the best hotel visit and the best food we've ever tasted.

"A Little Gem"

This hotel is excellent! The hotel and gardens were tastefully decorated/maintained and created a lovely relaxed vibe. The tasting menu (and wine flight) was outstanding and was a match for any Michelin star restaurant that I have ever been to. The staff were lovely and very professional too! Looking forward to a return visit!!

"What a wonderful discovery "

We were meeting up with some very dear friends and were looking for somewhere a bit special for lunch. After browsing the internet I came across the Driftwood Hotel, loved the look of it so booked a table. What a stroke of luck. The location is stunning. It was a beautiful day and we ate outside overlooking the sea... I would recommend eating here if you want a relaxed atmosphere, wonderful scenery and delicious food.

"Beautiful Hotel"

We have walked past this hotel many times on our walk to the beach from the Caravan Club site at the top of the road and always said we must stay there sometime. Well now we have and it was all that we thought it would be. We stayed in a patio room with glorious views over the Roseland to the sea. The people were wonderful and very attentive. The meal we had on our last night was superb. We will certainly go back there.

"Outstanding Service"

Staff were to a member courteous and helpful. We only went for coffee and lunch but we felt we were extremely well looked after by them! Fantastic views too. Easy access to the beach too. Overall hugely impressed and would like to stay.

"Family hotel with a hidden beach"

We've stayed in the area on holiday many times over the years and always come to our favourite restaurant for dinner. This year, we weren't able to secure a holiday rental in the area, so we decided to stay for a couple of nights before heading to the north coast.

Service, as usual, was excellent and the food superb - our favourite breakfast! Children had kids tea one evening, which was great and it allowed us to sample the tasting menu (with wine pairings) in peace!

Finally, we loved their quiet, hidden beach which is reached via a short path from the hotel.

We will certainly visit again.

Outstanding food - we couldn’t ask for more. Great wine pairing and attentive staff. The tasting menu was unbelievably good. We’ll be back!

"Another wonderful visit - delicious food"

We keep coming back to Driftwood. Every time the visit is wonderful and this was no exception. The food is outstandingly good, even for its class, and we had a delicious dinner again. The staff are all friendly and despite the ‘haute cuisine’ nature of the service, they strike a good balance by not being stuffy. Each stay we’ve had the bed has been extremely comfortable and the view looking out to sea is stunning. Never disappoints, we’ll be back.

"Great hotel in a fantastic setting made extra special by the food and the staff"

We stayed for four days in mid July and had fantastic weather every day. We had booked DB&B as with everything just out of lockdown we felt it was easier and safer. Turned out to be a great choice as the food each evening was outstanding...

Gardens were lovely with lots of discrete corners to relax in the sun or shade.

Best of all were the staff - everyone went out of their way to help guests relax and enjoy their stay even though coping with Covid restrictions was new to staff and guests alike. It was nice to see Paul, co-owner, around each day - very friendly in an understated way.

We would definitely go back and would absolutely recommend it.

"Perfect Balance"

In my opinion this Hotel gets it just right, blessed with the perfect position set in sub tropical gardens on the edge of a cliff with access to a stunning sandy beach with crystal clear waters Paul and Fiona have created something very special.

Elegant, sophisticated but never stuffy. A great place to truly unwind and enjoy the friendly efficient service of the excellent team of staff. As for the food what can I say some of the best I have ever tasted, congratulations to Olly and his team in the kitchen and keep up the good work. I can't finish without saying how relaxing it is to fall asleep with the tranquil sound of the waves lapping on the Beach.

"Friendly and welcoming - amazing food!"

We stayed in Room 5, which was a good size with a VERY BIG and comfortable bed.

The staff were, without exception, welcoming and genuinely wished to make the stay a pleasure. The food was beautiful in a relaxed restaurant with incredible coastal views. Our crab starter was exceptional.

The grounds of the hotel feature terraced gardens with a number of comfortable places to sit and admire the views, including a lovely, hidden summer house set down the hillside from the hotel.

Below the hotel is a quiet beach which is only accessible by walking so it had few people using it whilst we were there.

Fantastic family break after lockdown. The hotel is perfectly situated near a lovely beach, staff were brilliant and very friendly, top class chef made for a perfect place to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Wow! What a beautiful restaurant and breathtaking scenery. The food was incredible especially the fish board, and we even walked down and took a dip in the sea at the beach. The staff were so friendly and we couldn’t recommend it more highly.

"Great 2nd Stay"

We returned to the Driftwood to stay for 4 nights in July as our escape post COVID lockdown. The service is as good as our last visit in 2019 as was the food. The Head Chef has changed with Oliver Pierrepont taking over from the fantastic Chris Eden but the food was still excellent. We really enjoyed our holiday and are looking forward to our next stay... hopefully soon.

We would just like to thank you and your very professional and friendly staff for making our stay at The Driftwood this week as enjoyable as it always is.

In light of this very difficult and testing time for everyone, we felt reassured and confident all precautions possible were being taken to try and keep the Coronavirus at bay.

As for Olly and his team in the kitchen.... my goodness we have been fed well! We truly enjoyed every part of each dinner on all three evenings, from the canapés with our pre dinner drink to the petit fours with our mint tea... delicious! The kitchen now belongs to Olly!

We hope you, and everyone at The Driftwood remain in the best of health.

Our fond regards to you all,

I've visited this amazing hotel twice now. Once with friends and our three children and once with my family. Everything is just lovely... location, food, decor, wine list, atmosphere...I could go on. As for the food, well it is truly a delight to the taste buds that seem to explode with every mouthful. The dishes are a picture, a work of art....the oyster shells, oh my goodness....!

We are so fortunate to be able to spend time in the special place you have created.

Please pass on my thanks to your wonderful team.

"Lovely location and great staff"

The hotel is superbly located overlooking the sea and has some quite dramatic views. Once you’ve wound your way through some of the pretty villages of Cornwall and arrive at the hotel you find it at the end of a small lane and it consists of a dozen or so rooms. Upon arrival we were greeted by both owner and a senior member of staff who treated us like long lost friends with a warm welcome...

In conclusion I would say that I would definitely recommend Driftwood to anybody that is looking for a hotel in the area and I would compliment both the owners and the staff always having a smile on their face and having a will do attitude. One final comment a nice touch is the coffee they deliver to your room (outside) at an agreed time each day that is complimentary so that you can have coffee in bed before you go for your breakfast.

The wonderful weather we had certainly helped and the high point was the food which I’ll review separately but even without those we would have loved The Driftwood. Beds were huge and comfortable, a mistake on the bill was corrected without debate, breakfast was beautiful and all the staff were excellent. We will definitely return.
